Staying Active, Staying Connected: Pickleball Returns to CSCMT!

For many people impacted by cancer, staying active can feel challenging. Treatment, recovery, appointments, and everyday responsibilities can all affect energy levels and routines. At the same time, many people find that gentle movement and meaningful social connection play important roles in overall well-being.

That’s one reason we’re excited to announce that pickleball is back at Cancer Support Community Montana.

Our pickleball program offers a fun, relaxed opportunity to get moving, spend time with others, and enjoy being part of a friendly community. Whether you’ve played for years or have never picked up a paddle before, you’re invited to join us.

Why Does Staying Active Matter?

Levels of physical activity are different for everyone, especially during and after cancer treatment. For some, staying active means taking a daily walk. For others, it could be attending yoga class, gardening, or even participating in a recreational activity like pickleball. Either way, the goal isn’t intense exercise or competition: It’s finding enjoyable ways to move your body and stay engaged with the world around you.

Organizations like the American Cancer Society encourage cancer survivors to remain as physically active as their abilities and circumstances allow because regular movement can support both physical and mental well-being.

Just as importantly, enjoyable activities are often the easiest to stick with over time.

More Than a Game

Part of what makes pickleball so popular is its approachability. The rules are relatively simple, the court is smaller than a tennis court, and players of different skill levels can often enjoy the game together. It’s easy to learn and doesn’t require extensive experience to have fun.

But for many participants, the social side may be even more valuable than the game itself. Between points and between matches, people have opportunities to talk, laugh, and spend time together. New friendships are formed. Familiar faces become part of a weekly routine. Those small moments have a real impact.

At Cancer Support Community Montana, we believe support comes in many forms. Sometimes it’s found in a support group or educational program. Sometimes it’s found in a conversation on the sidelines of a pickleball court.
